One character, different versions
A familiar name can lead to very different stories. One creator may stay near the original setting, while another writes an alternate universe or changes the starting relationship.
Read the description instead of assuming every version follows the same timeline. State which details you want to keep when you begin.
Decide how you enter the story
You can play an original character, take a supporting role, or describe a new situation. Give your role a reason to speak to the character: a task, a question, or an event that has just interrupted the scene.
If you want a friendship, an adventure, or a rivalry, say that directly. It gives the dialogue a more specific direction than a name alone.
Find a particular series or character
Use the series name with the character's name when a search returns several unrelated results. Check tags and introductions to distinguish the version you want from other community creations.
